FAQs
Will electrolysis hurt?
All bodies and sensitivity levels are different. I’ve had clients who said they barely felt it, and clients who found it painful. Lidocaine numbing cream is an option for areas or clients who find electrolysis uncomfortable.
How long will my treatment take?
This will depend on several factors: area of the body, regularity of sessions, hormonal levels, and hair growth cycles. We will go over a potential timeline and treatment plan in your consultation. With regular treatments, many areas can be fully cleared in 1-2 years, with a significant difference starting to be seen in 4-8 months.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Make sure your hair is long enough that it can be grasped by tweezers. About the length of a grain of rice is good! If you are shaving the area, stop shaving 3-7 days before your appointment (depending on speed of growth).
Avoid caffeine the day of your appointment – that can make electrolysis feel more painful.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Start drinking extra water a few days before your appointment. This makes electrolysis easier for the practitioner and more comfortable for you! The magic of electrolysis needs moisture in the follicle to work smoothly.
Did I mention hydration? I can’t emphasize this enough!
Stop using retinols, AHAs, and chemical peels a week before your appointment in the areas being treated.
What should I do after my appointment?
Keep area out of the sun and wear sunscreen.
Keep area clean, and avoid touching.
Avoid makeup and heavy sweating for 24 hours.
Apply antibacterial cream as needed.
Avoid exfoliation for about a week, or until the skin is fully healed.
I have scabs, redness, or irritated skin after my appointment. Is that normal?
It definitely can be! Certain parts of the body (like legs) are more prone to scabbing, and redness after treatment is normal. Treat the areas worked on like a wound and keep them clean and moist. Keep the areas out of the sun and wear sunscreen! A cold, epsom salt compress can be used to help with soreness.
